Meeting planned for proposed water rate increases for some county residents

Adams County officials invite county residents who, until about two years ago, were serviced by Oakland Water and are concerned about seeing a hike in their water bills to attend a Jan. 17 meeting of the Adams County Board of Supervisors.  Great River Utility Operating Company, a division of Central States Water Resource, purchased a number of water systems throughout Mississippi, including a private company in Adams County called Oakland Water Works, formerly owned by David Huber until it was purchased by Great River in June 2021.

Twelve Oaks, Other Subdivisions Want to Fight Proposed Water Rate Hike

Twelve Oaks Utilities was sold to Great River Utility Operating Company last year when the Great River purchased 26 water and wastewater systems in Mississippi. The company also purchases The Lakes in Oxford and Wellsgate.

Half of the Twelve Oaks subdivision is on Great River for water services and all of Twelve Oaks is under Great River for wastewater and sewage utilities.

About two weeks ago, customers of Great River received emails that Great River was asking the Mississippi Public Service Commission to approve a rate increase for wastewater services from $14 to $54 – an almost 400% increase. Residents were also informed that Great River intends to raise the rate for water service from $14 to $47.21.

Great River Buys Out 26 Water Systems, PSC Approves

The Mississippi Public Service Commission has approved the acquisition of 26 water and wastewater systems in Mississippi.

Great River Utility Operating Company will serve about 6,800 connections across the state. Great River is a division of Central States Water Resources, one of the 15 largest investor-owned utilities in the United States.

This will be Central States Water Resources first time providing utility services in Mississippi..

PSC Approves Wall Street to Buy Out Main Street Mississippi

The Mississippi Public Service Commission has approved the acquisition of 26 water and wastewater systems in Mississippi.

Great River Utility Operating Company now owns Affordable Homes of Vicksburg in Warren County, The Lakes of Oxford Utility Company in Lafayette County and 24 other systems. The company will serve about 6,800 connections across the state of Mississippi, according to a press release.

St. Louis utility acquires 26 water and wastewater systems across Mississippi

Approximately 6,800 customers on water and wastewater treatment systems across the state now will be served by a new utility.

The Mississippi Public Service Commission has approved the Great River Utility Operating Company’s acquisition of 26 water and wastewater systems in the state.

Great River is a division of Central States Water Resources, a utility based in St. Louis.
